Cherry Rype is the hardest working songwriter/producer in the game, constantly putting out diary entries disguised as perfectly refined alt-pop bangers.
I’m always sliding into people’s DMs asking ‘hey can I remix your tune?’. It’s sometimes misinterpreted - it can be read as ‘hey, I think I’m better than you and I can make your song better.’ The truth is actually more insipid than that - I just really enjoy making remixes. Cherry’s quick reply led to this being my first remix since the DM was invented.
My late nite dub is a chilled out 2-stepper inspired by the CD jukebox in a bar just off the main strip of Kings Cross back in the day, where other DJs and I would sometimes go for a chat and some peace and quiet when we’d been working that night.
The original version from Cherry’s album GOODGIRLSGETLOVEBOMBED is a bit more coy about its UKG influence, but the single version with a new bridge performed by Annabelle Scobie is the definitive one. The vocal cut of my late nite remix is probably floating around on a USB somewhere out there, but it’s never seen an official release. - AM
